This program offers an integral guided journey across the Rota Vicentina between Porto Covo and Cape St. Vincent, including the entire Fishermen’s Trail in the Alentejo and the Historical Way from Odeceixe to Cape St. Vicent with all the possible detours towards the ocean.
It’s a different proposal from others and especially thought to the German speaking market, as it includes the flight from Munich (and other airports) to Lisbon and return, all necessary transfers in Portugal, including your luggage, for days of absolute active rest in total comfort.
On the way you’ll come across deserted pristine beaches, jaw dropping cliffs, small fishing villages and the natural treasure which this untouched coastline of the Southwest Alentejo and Algarve.

Day 1: Arrival in Portugal

Day 2: Porto Covo » Vila Nova de Milfontes | 20 km | 170 m accummulated climb
The first day’s Hike will take you along golden sandy beaches and enourmous dunes, that mark the begining of the Fishermen’s Trail, as you satrt walking on the top of the rocky cliffs.

Day 3: Vila Nova de Milfontes » Almograve | 16 km | 90 m accummulated climb
This is a day to purify your soul thanks to the overwhelming views over Vila Nova de Milfontes and the Mira river that meets the ocean here. It is a short and accessible hiking day so that you may enjoy the area to its fullest extent.

In this day, you’ll cross a pine tree forest, after passing reddish colour sand dunes and before arriving to an area of monumental cliffs where you can observe the phenomenon of the white stork nests in the cliffs, something that only occurs here, in all of the world..

Day 5: Zambujeira do Mar » Odeceixe | 18 km | 265 m accummulated climb
This is a memorable day that reaches its highest moment as you arrive in the border between Alentejo and Algarve. From the top of the cliff, the view over the deep blue sea, the pristine beach and the hills of the Seixe’s mouth of the river will no doubt make you stop and be amazed.

Day 6: Odeceixe » Aljezur | 21 km | 125 m accummulated climb
At the 6th day the route splits between the cliffs by the coast and the agricultural fields more inland, with a great deal of the hike on a narrow trail by the water channel.

Day 7: Aljezur » Arrifana | 20 km | 225 m accummulated climb
From the top of the legendary Castle of Aljezur, contemplate the fertile lowlands. The creeks wind along these fields with magnificent galleries of poplars, alders, ash trees, willows and tamarisks. On this day there will be a detour of the Historical Way, to take advantage of the Ponta da Atalaia Circuit and the proximity to the coast.

Day 8: Arrifana » Carrapateira | 24 km | 415 m accummulated climb
The 8th day reveals all the variety of this surprisingly wild coast, with dramatic high cliffs, deserted beaches and small harbours where the colors of the fishing boats shine in the morning sun. The inland part of the walk brings back the silence of the woods and the strong scent of the vegetation.

Day 9: Carrapateira » Vila do Bispo | 22 km | 300 m accummulated climb
After amazing views over the coast, the route will bring you to the winding paths of the Southwest Algarve foothills, passing through the villages of Vilarinha and Pedralva.

Day 10: Vila do Bispo » Cabo de S. Vicente | 14 km | 95 m accummulated climb
The final stretch of this journey that will take you along the entire Rota Vicentina, will end up in Cape St. Vincent, the most Southwestern point in continental Europe. The monumental cliffs offer incredible views to the hiker and the autumnal migration of soaring birds and seabirds, attracts more than 300 species of birds. The vegetation is still the protagonist on this trail along the top of the cliff. It crosses the Sagres Biogenetic Reserve, a sanctuary for botanists.
On the afternoon there will be a transfer to Lisbon, from where you fly back in following morning.
The daily section are in average 20 km and have 200 of accummulated climb. The constant Atlantic wind guarantees a mild climate almost all year round. The route is mainly in footpaths with some loose sand and along dirt tracks. Some hiking experience and surefootedness is important for a positive experience.
The accommodation is composed of 3 and 4 star hotels and other more simple, as well as quality country side villas. All rooms have ensuite bathroom and some accommodations offer swimming pool or are very close to the beach. All include breakfast.
The program can be cancelled up to 14 days before departure date, in the case it doesn’t reach the minimum number of participants.
