Seixe river

The initial part of this circuit is side by side with the Seixe river. The wetlands at the mouth of rivers and streams are areas of high productivity, i.e.: they are the breeding place for many miniscule life forms which feed the fish, reptiles, birds and mammals.

Dune shrubs

Dune shrubs are often formed in the shape of a cushion, which proves to be very aerodynamic – not offering resistances to the wind, rather gently swerving it. Other plants are taller, daring to rise above the level of the others.

Beach of Odeceixe

Ao chegar à praia de Odeceixe, o percurso orienta-se a sul, ao longo da costa. Goze da paisagem soberba sobre a praia, e se veio de norte pelo Trilho dos Pescadores, observe o local que pisou no dia anterior.

Odeceixe windmill

In the village, the windmill outstands. It’s one of the few that is still working and can be visited. Around it, wooden footbridges and benches invite us to contemplate the houses in the village, the Seixe rivermouth and the mediterranean scrubland of the south facing hills – a treat for the eye!

The foodplains are the overflow areas of the river banks, where in days of intense rain, the water brings along everything necessary to build deep and fertile soil. For the remaining part of the year, the flood allows for thriving crops and pastures to grow.

Some of these flood areas are still in their wild state, holding reedbeds and rushes. These habitats are quite rich in birds, such as the grey heron and the white egret.
